PayPal Teams up With Apple’s Siri to Make Payments Easier

Voice recognition, an area heavily invested in by many of the world’s leading tech-firms, are now being applied to allow Apple’s users to use Siri to do payments via PayPal, by voice command.

Making life even easier for many, all you need to process a payment is to tell Siri who you wish to pay, the amount, and when, and the AI will sort it for you via PayPal. iNews reports that Apple announced the news and that they are now opening up for third-party developers in September, which then allows Siri to complete a broader range of tasks than previously.

The feature will be tested in 29 countries first, including the UK, the US, Australia, China and India. Applying AI-powered voice recognition is becoming increasingly popular among technology firms, and some of the largest ones, such as Amazon who’s applied Alexa, and is currently deemed the ‘gold standard’ in conversational inquiry, iNews writes.

Samsung is also joining in, working on launching an all-new AI digital assistant earlier this week and filed to trademark the term Bixby for use in computer software for personal information management, in smartphones, mobiles, portable computers and tablets to “operate voice recognition system” and “computer software for enabling hands-free use of a mobile phone through voice recognition,” the company reported last week, according to iNews.

PayPal is predicted to have busy times ahead before Christmas, as it says that more than 17million peer-to-peer payments will be done during December, a number that could potentially increase when the new AI is implemented.

Following in the footsteps of PayPal’s AI implementing is Mastercard who is looking to develop conversational chat bot platforms that enable the users to make quick transactions and payments by typing the query into their smartphone.

“The bot will integrate into existing messaging apps, like Facebook Messenger, and aims to make the experience of chatting with the technology as human-like as possible, which Mastercard compares to being as easy as texting a friend”.
